Sadie never fails to deliver an innovative and jaw-dropping collection each season. AW18 was both playful and sophisticated; an array of strong, structured mod-esque silhouettes, dripping with exciting textiles. Her signature colours - red, royal blue and silver - played a significant role in this season's colour palette. Combined with stunning heat-pressed imagery onto glittering lurex, we were presented with a classically 'Sadie' collection, which seemed to showcase her numerous strengths.
When I arrived at the show I was immediately captured by the bassy, atmospheric soundtrack that filled the dreamy presentation space. The music perfectly complimented the collection and really transported you upon arrival. Sadie's girls stood in dream-like trances looking strong and wonder-full, their soft, explosive hair pulled back with custom hair clips designed in collaboration with Syd Hayes. This is just one example of the meticulous attention-to-detail Sadie presented us with this AW18.
I particularly loved the looks that combined sporty, masculine top-halves with Sadie's signature a-line shape worn below. The wool panelled pieces were truly stunning in person, and the richness of the saturated reds & blues against the soft, cool greys worked perfectly. The lurex pieces added a real sense of free-spiritedness to the collection, providing youthfulness in balance with the sophisticated silhouettes. I could have stood for hours picking out more and more details within the printed lurex pieces; they were simply divine.
Another fab element Sadie included in AW18 was the use of headpieces. They added a tough and sophisticated nature to the collection and, like so many of her pieces, had a real timelessness. Through brocades, glitter, and a bold splash of colour, Sadie has truly outdone herself. With this being her last season under NEWGEN sponsorship and mentoring from BFC, it will be exciting to see which direction Sadie takes next. The full collection can be viewed here.
